If you're looking for a new pet, it can be tempting to go straight to a breeder or to be enticed by kittens being sold at pet stores. But if you really want to save an animal's life, you might consider adopting a pet from your local animal shelter.

Animals end up at shelters for all kinds of reasons — they may have been stray, or they may have been unwanted by previous owners. One thing is for certain: animals who end up in shelters are the most at-risk for euthanization due to overcrowding or inability to be adopted.

That's why adopting from a shelter can save more than just your pet's life. It clears room for other stray or unwanted animals to come and have the chance to be adopted.
