Caring Foster Parent Gives Neglected Pooch Kellan A Second Chance At Life
Kellan was an abused, neglected, and abandoned cane corso found on the streets of Houston, Texas. When Forgotten Dogs of the Fifth Ward Project found her, they sent an immediate plea for a foster home. Not quite sure if Kellan had been involved in dog fighting or used as a bait dog, her rescuers knew they needed to find her a foster home that would not only help her heal from extensive health problems, but also teach her love and safely reintegrate her into society.
The rescuers named her Kellan, after Kelle, the organization’s leader. "I honestly feel when we find a dog like that that, it is the one we were meant to take home that day. I always feel that there is a perfect plan for them," said Kelle.
When Michael agreed to foster her, Kellan found not only someone to love her when she needed it most, but also someone who needed her love. Michael had recently ended a seventeen-year relationship and was living alone at that time, and he knew this was his calling. "She needs me. And I need her," he said.
Michael and Kellan were said to be “a force to be reckoned with” while he nursed her back to health. As her healing progressed, she gained enough weight to be spayed, and could finally be listed for adoption.
Michael was a man of his word, committed to love and nurse Kellan back to health in order to prepare her for a happy new life. Thanks to his patience and assistance, Kellan has now been adopted by a loving forever family in Pennsylvania.
