Did you know eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness? Over eight million Americans suffer from them today. In fact, as many as two out of every 100 students has some type of eating disorder during adolescence.

Eating disorders are pervasive in our society. Yet many insurance firms don't offer coverage for treatment. They filter out what they believe to be "legitimate" mental illness— and many don't feel eating disorders fall under that category.

The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act requires employers to provide mental healthcare for their employees equal to what they provide for physical treatment. This is a great step, but others who don't work at large corporations still won't receive care they need.
