When a litter of kittens with respiratory infections was found underneath a house in Louisiana, their futures looked bleak. Cats taken into kill shelters with an illness rarely make it out alive. But with the help of the Northside Humane Society, the litter escaped being euthanized: this shelter was absolutely dedicated to finding them forever homes.

One by one, each kitten was adopted...all except Vanessa. Left with scar tissue in her nasal cavity due to the respiratory infection, Vanessa's persistent symptoms led a number of potential adopters to lose interest in her. But Northside Humane Society volunteers would not give up. Every day for four long years, they told Vanessa that she was a wonderful, beautiful cat and they would find her a wonderful home.

"Vanessa is a sweet, very affectionate cat, with so much love to offer, and it was so sad to see her passed over so many times over the years just because she was not 'perfect' in the eyes of potential adopters," her rescuers lamented.

Finally, on November 2, 2014, four years after she was brought in as a tiny kitten, it happened. A potential adopter saw Vanessa on Facebook, asked to visit, and it was love at first sight! Despite her medical issues, he thought she was perfect. Vanessa settled in nicely with her new dad, and today the two are very happy together.

**Let's give a big thanks to Northside Humane Society and all of their shelter staff, volunteers, and donors. Without them, cats like Vanessa wouldn't have a chance at a happily ever after.**
