FDA Issues Dog Food Recall Over Elevated Vitamin D Levels
The Food & Drug Administration announced a recall of a popular dog food brand after it was discovered some of the products had concerning vitamin D levels.
According to the recall, Fromm Family Foods is voluntarily recalling around 5500 cases of its Fromm Shredded Entrée wet dog food.

They stated in the recall: "The recall was initiated after we discovered, through our own analysis, that these products may contain elevated levels of Vitamin D."

The recall includes the following products:
– Four-Star Shredded Beef in Gravy Entrée, 12 oz per can UPC 7270511876 – Four-Star Shredded Chicken in Gravy Entrée, 12 oz. per can UPC 7270511880 – Four-Star Shredded Pork in Gravy Entrée, 12 oz. per can UPC 7270511878 – Four-Star Shredded Turkey in Gravy Entrée, 12 oz. per can UPC 7270511882

All of the recalled products were sold in 12-ounce cans with a best-by date of 8/2024.


The company said, "We have identified and isolated the error, and in addition to our existing safety process, we have put corrective actions into place to prevent this from happening again."
While there have been no reported illnesses or injuries related to the recall, the FDA emphasized the seriousness of excess vitamin D in dogs.

In the recall, the FDA noted:
"Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss.
Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction."

Anyone who is concerned their dog may have consumed too much vitamin D should contact their veterinarian immediately.

If you have any of the recalled products, you should stop using them immediately and can return them for a full refund.
