St. Francis Animal Rescue of Venice, Inc. (SFAR) was founded in 1992 when a devoted group of cat loving women banded together to feed and spay/neuter a colony of feral cats. These women recognized that there was a need to help abandoned and homeless cats in the community. In 1993, SFAR became a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. Three years later, property was purchased to open a cageless, no-kill cat shelter and adoption center. We currently care for approximately 30-50 adoptable cats and kittens in our adoption center at any given time, 25 - 40 cats & kittens in foster care and 30 resident cats in our permanent sanctuary. SFAR receives no government assistance and operates solely from private donations and proceeds from our Thrift Store.

Help your local shelter & pets in need.
Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site are joining NBC and Telemundo stations’ Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign to support shelters and rescues across the country by encouraging individuals to donate funds to help animal welfare groups with the most critical needs.
Each summer, shelters and rescues face an added stress on their resources from increases in puppy and kitten intakes due to spring litters. In 2022 shelters are reporting higher than normal intake rates, with unprecedented overpopulation in some areas. They need you now.
