The Outer Banks SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which staffs and manages the Dare County Animal Shelter. Since 1978 the Dare County Animal Shelter has been serving the Outer Banks community to offer help to animals in need. The shelter is concerned with the welfare of all animals, domestic, feral, or wild. As the only animal shelter in Dare County, the Outer Banks SPCA is a community resource for pets and people that help abandoned and homeless animals across our county.

Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site are joining NBC and Telemundo stations’ Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign to support shelters and rescues across the country by encouraging individuals to donate funds to help animal welfare groups with the most critical needs.
Each summer, shelters and rescues face an added stress on their resources from increases in puppy and kitten intakes due to spring litters. In 2022 shelters are reporting higher than normal intake rates, with unprecedented overpopulation in some areas. They need you now.
