Surrendered, lost, injured and homeless animals who arrive at the Humane Society of Sedona are all assessed by our staff and a local veterinarian and a plan of care is established for both their mental and physical health. The basics (if required) include vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery and microchipping. If an animal has severe trauma of any kind, we immediately address their issues with medical or behavioral care. The costs of these services often exceed what our adoption and licensing program revenue can handle, so are paid out of what we call our Emergency Medical Fund. These funds are vital to save animals’ lives and to assist with animals who have dental issues, tumors, broken bones, or even medication for serious illnesses that can be cured with short or long-term medical care. Additional expenses average $250 - $800 per animal but a dental procedure could go as high as $1,200, and surgeries are much more. Animals with medical concerns are less likely to be adopted, and would suffer without medical care, so the Shelter does everything it can for them to ensure they find a loving home. However, this Fund constantly needs to be refreshed as many animals coming into the Shelter need additional care. Our volunteers and online donors often donate to The Fund specifically when a particular animal is in need, but this is ongoing. It would be wonderful to have a substantial donation to fall back on when emergency care is needed so we can ensure the animal receives the most expedient care possible, giving them the opportunity to go to a family faster, when possibly their only hope before they arrived at our Shelter was euthanasia.

Help your local shelter & pets in need.
Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site are joining NBC and Telemundo stations’ Clear The Shelters pet adoption campaign to support shelters and rescues across the country by encouraging individuals to donate funds to help animal welfare groups with the most critical needs.
Each summer, shelters and rescues face an added stress on their resources from increases in puppy and kitten intakes due to spring litters. In 2022 shelters are reporting higher than normal intake rates, with unprecedented overpopulation in some areas. They need you now.
