At Country Cat Lady (CCL), our primary focus and specialty is rescuing pregnant cats, nursing moms, and kittens under 8 weeks of age. We hand raise these kittens, most often (but not always) with the help of their kitty mama, to become working therapy and emotional support cats. Those cats that are interested work to support the mental health of our clients, who are of all ages and abilities. Our center is designed to allow for clients who seek to enhance their occupational therapy by cleaning after and caring for our cats. We also take our cats out into the community to Senior Living Facilities, Read with a Cat Programs at the Public Library, and Schools – just to name a few. Our goal is to harness the love and affection a cat exudes to enhance the lives of our clients and the local community. Cats who are not interested in this work are available for adoption, either as Emotional Support Animals or just another member of the family – so far we have found loving homes for over 100 cats in our three short years of existing! At CCL we also have a TNR program for large colonies, a Mom’s Last Litter program that intakes pregnant cats from loving (often low income) homes and returns them spayed after they’ve raised their kittens, and a Full Circle program that s/n all cats in a colony that kittens originate. Through this essential work we are able to help community cats by reducing cat populations and improving the lives of feral and owned animals.
