Lawreen is the second of nine children born to two peasant farmers in Webuye, Kenya. She wants to finish college so she can make a better life for her 8 siblings.

Lawreen's older sister was fortunate enough to attend the Technical University of Mombasa, but couldn't finish — when their father passed away, the school fees became too much. Now Lawreen Nyae has a chance at completing that education that her sister had to leave behind.
With the help of a scholarship she was granted last year, Lawreen was able to excel, remaining a strong B– student during high school. Now Lawreen Nyae has been accepted to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. The only things keeping her from getting her university education — and achieving her dream of becoming an accountant — are the steep fees for schooling, meals, transportation, and accommodations.
