GreaterGood.org is celebrating 10 Years of Giving Where It Matters! Help us protect birds and other wildlife in the Sierra San José. When you #Give10, you are helping study and protect golden eagles and other threatened animals.

Soaring high above the ground, golden eagles are native to the Sky Islands Region that encompasses Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Mexico. Golden eagles are the national bird of Mexico—their dark brown bodies glide through the air, diving down to catch their prey at speeds of more than 150 miles per hour.

However, the golden eagle is threatened in Mexico because the habitat of its prey is being lost to ranching and other human activities. The Sierra San José—a steep and isolated Sky Island mountain range just south of the U.S. border—is one such habitat important for the golden eagle. Although this mountain range is part of a global biodiversity hotspot, little is known specifically about what lives there, making it difficult to advocate for conservation.

Time is running out: we've been granted access to the land in mid-September. With the support of a local ranch owner, a team of biologists will backpack into this rugged mountain for two nights to document the biodiversity of this Sky Island, using the information to ensure the land is protected for golden eagles and all other creatures that depend on it, including jaguars, ocelots, trogons, beavers, and much more.

You can help. Your generous support will help study and protect the Sierra San José and the animals who live there. 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes to help—thank you for your support.

Madrean Discovery Expeditions is a Signature Program of GreaterGood.org whose mission is to explore, study, and protect the Madrean Archipelago in Sonora, Mexico. All observations made during the expeditions to these unique ecosystems are stored in an open-source database, used for conservation, research, and education.
