Computer Training for Girls in Sierra Leone

Help bridge the digital divide in Africa by giving girls in Sierra Leone computer training.

Computer proficiency is required for all career paths in today's modern society. Girls at the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) schools now have access to a computer lab. Despite computers being second nature in the western world, girls having access to a computer lab is groundbreaking and children are grateful for the opportunity. Technology is now playing a huge role in educating and empowering these girls. A technology-proficient woman is more likely to attend university, have healthier families and positively contribute to the overall well-being of her community.

Develop Africa is devoted to providing computers and training to girls in Sierra Leona. This initiative will help close the gender gap in education. This is an effective long-term investment in providing a pathway to break out of poverty. This exposure will help girls prepare to live in a technology-aided world and give them the chance for leadership in the future.

You can help. Just $10 provides one hour of computer training to fifteen girls.

Report from the Field

August 2017

Donors like you helped 25 girls achieve their computer training requirements by providing the instructor's salary. Classes are held three times per week for 2-hour sessions with extra time to assist the pupils with note-taking. One of those students was Marion (pictured right), a class 6 student at FAWE. When asked about her computer training Marion said: "We are in the blessed period of our primary school life because the computer facility we enjoy cannot be found in most schools in Sierra Leone.”
