Uniforms and Shoes for Students in Sierra Leone

Enable more children to attend school by providing school uniforms and shoes for students!

Many families in Sierra Leone struggle to cover the annual cost of uniforms, tuition and school supplies. For some, the purchase of shoes is considered a luxury item. Consequently, many children are forced to drop out of school because of family financial hardships or inadequate funds. Not having school uniforms is a burden that delays or halts school attendance for hundreds of kids every year. According to Poverty Action Lab, giving a uniform to a student reduced school absenteeism by 43%.

Providing shoes and uniforms at the starts of the school year will enable more children to attend school in a timely fashion or simply continue to attend school. Develop Africa has developed a program to give uniforms and shoes to students living in Sierra Leone. Providing shoes and uniforms will enable more children to attend school and the promise of a better future.

September 2016

Recently funds from donors helped purchase a uniform for Hannah, who is in 5th grade. Hannah is very serious with her school work, likes to read African story books and wants to be a medical doctor when she grows up. Her mother is a teacher and her father abandoned the family when Hannah was two years old. They live in a single bedroom apartment with no running water and electricity. Hannah would not have been able to purchase a uniform without the help from GreaterGood donors.
