Help provide sustainable lighting solutions for children living in Sierra Leone.
Children living in Sierra Leone today face many problems—often limiting them from societal advancement. One major issue is "power cuts"—a government mandated blackout at night to conserve energy. At night, people are forced to use kerosene lanterns and open-flame candles. Lanterns used by kids and youths are a health hazard and often cause tragic fires. Additionally, weak and flickering light damages children's eyesight when they are forced to study at night by candlelight. This method also takes an economic toll on the family, who often cannot afford to high cost of Kerosene to light their homes.
Develop Africa has initiated a program to provide solar-powered lights to families in Sierra Leone. A safe, renewable and environmentally conscious solution will drastically improve children's ability to study at night. It will save families hundreds of dollars in fuel expense over just three years. The initiative intends to save several lives that would otherwise be lost to house fires. Helping children study in a safe environment has lasting impact on the future of Sierra Leone.
You can help. Just $50 provides one safe, renewable solar light for one child living in Sierra Leone.
