Send Care Kits to Help Rescued Horses
SKU: SKU: SK-BB-HORSES-1
The Situation:
Every day, horses in need are entering animal rescues, sanctuaries and shelters. Horses enter these life saving facilities for a variety of reasons: they are ill, aging and need more care, they are left behind after a natural disaster, or the owners simply are no longer able to take care of them. Sadly, these beautiful creatures are often removed or rescued from horrible situations of cruelty where they were malnourished, abused or neglected.
Horses are gentle giants and they need love and proper care. The organizations taking in these wonderful animals need our help. These rescue groups prioritize providing shelter, food and veterinary care, which means other horse supplies push their budgets beyond capacity. There is a constant need, as supplies are critical to rehabilitation and are being used over and over again, until they are worn out or completely used up.
How You Can Help:
By sending a care kit to a horse in need! Together, we can help these rescue horses not only survive, but thrive by supporting the organizations that provide skilled and vital care. Your gift will help a horse or other equine -- such as a donkey or mule -- in need.
Care Kit Options:
Bronze kits send a flat-backed bucket to hold a horse's food or water. The flat side makes the bucket more stable when hung in a stall which gives the horse easier access. These buckets can also help staff with the facility's upkeep and cleanliness. A slow-feed hay net will also be sent, which helps hay last longer by; preventing hay waste and over feeding. The hay nets allow hay to be hung keeping it off the ground so it is fresher and cleaner.
Silver care kits send a breakaway halter. These halters aid in training and are safer for horses in potentially stressful situations as a small part of the halter will "break" if the horse panics. A 10 foot lead rope that helps keep the horse safe and close as they are moved from one area to another. Leads also aid with training, an important part of helping horses find their forever homes. And as a special treat a salt block will be sent! Not only are salt blocks appealing to horses, they also provide essential salt and trace minerals for a healthy diet.
Gold care kits include a jolly ball toy perfect for making horses feel more at home and comfortable in their new surroundings. The toys encourage play, and a fun time makes for a happy horse! Fly spray is also included - an essential for horse rescues! Flies are often drawn to horses but they can be bothersome and even harmful. The spray repels stable flies, horseflies, deer flies, horn flies, gnats, mosquitoes and deer ticks, which can carry seriously harmful diseases. By providing the spray to these group we can help ensure the horses stay healthy and safe. A rope halter will also be sent, which helps to move the horse from one area to another - safely. A 10 foot lead is also sent to help keep the horse safe and close and works great with the halter sent.

Stories:
June 2023: Mirabelle and Ina are the best of friends that share a paddock and run in when it's snack time. "As you can see in the picture they are super fond of their hay nets. One of the benefits of using slow feeder hay nets for horses is they can help prevent digestive problems and behavioral issues. These hay nets provide an eating pattern that is more similar to their natural grazing behaviors" says Kathryn Cordeiro a NEER North Board Member. The second photo is of Little Monk who is appreciating one of the buckets that was sent to him. The rescue is super grateful for the salt bricks, hat nets, fly spray, halters and buckets that were sent to them!
Spring 2023: The Alaqua Animal Refuge in Florida was sent supplies thanks to customers like you. They received fly sprays, fly nets, salt blocks and several other supplies for the horses they house; along with toys and treats for the dogs they take care of! The goods sent have helped prevent ectoparasite infections and vector borne diseases that are carried by fly's in the pastures. The fly spray is especially essential as fly season is at its peak during the spring and early summer months. With large farm animals supplies are costly, especially for this group that is a non-profit, driven on donations. Below pictured are two of the veterinary technicians and two of the mini horses who benefited from the care kits sent!
